Update Fred Conger

Earlier this week dad developed a terrible cough.  Of course, the first thing the Health Care center thought was COVID (he is fully vaccinated).  On Tuesday they gave him a rapid test and he tested positive.  They nurse talked with mom about moving him into hospice.  Later that day they transferred him to Delnor hospital in Geneva.  They found that he has pneumonia, and the doctor was not convinced that he had COVID.  If he did it was a very mild case.

Because of the positive test result, mom is being quarantined in her apartment for two weeks.  The CDC does not require quarantining if you have been around someone who tests positive if you are fully vaccinated, but Holmstad does (and correctly).

They started him on antibiotics and seemed to be doing well. However, he has since been refusing to eat or take his medications.  In the conversations with the doctor this morning he recommended that he go into hospice and does not expect him to live long.  The bright side to moving him to hospice is that Grandma will be able to see him.  I don’t know if anyone else will be able to get in to see him yet.

Nancy and I were planning on going up tomorrow to help sort out some of the financial mess with his transition to the health care center and take mom to Bob Harr’s memorial service.  The Harr family were the first we met when we moved to Glenview and have been a big part of our lives.  Nancy and I still plan on being there, although we may head north today.  The worst part of living in Indy is being so far from family.

Lindsey, our middle daughter just texted to let me know she is on her way to be with Gma.  She lives in the city and saw my post to our family group and dropped work and ran. Our children and Scott’s have been wonderful to their grandparents during this time.  I hope amid the fog, that my dad knows how much he is loved.

Thanks for all the prayers and love.  We know dad is surrounded by a cloud of family and friends who will be there to welcome him home.  As Stewart would say: Don’t Worry Dad. Everything is Ok!

Your dad knows how much he is loved by you, your family and countless others that know him. You and your family are surrounded with love during this time.

My experience with Hospice has all been positive. May your mom and dad find Peace and Love at this time in their lives. May you and your family find comfort in the love that you all share with your parents and each other.
